World-class vocalist, Perla Batalla is a full-throated
songstress who has worked with Leonard Cohen,
k.d.lang, Nick Cave and Laurie Anderson, Perla
inhabits her music completely, and is
"...an astonishingly rich contralto capable of
stratospheric arches of unadulterated emotion."
In addition to her wonderful contemporary and tradition latin concerts, and salutes to Leonard Cohen, and Jazz, Perla and songwriting partner, David Batteau now offer Blue House, a full length theatrical concert inspired by the journals, frescos and canvasses of two of the greatest Mexican painters of the twentieth century, Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo. The show is a fearless glimpse into the unrestrained passion of the creative spirit framed by an epic love affair charged with ego, devotion, betrayal and genius.
"... Perla Batalla possesses one of the finest singing
voices on planet Earth..."
Latino Los Angeles
"Batalla's Bird on the Wire brings the house down."
Guardian Unlimited, England
"This singer has become a perfect example of the new Latina woman in the U.S. - proud of her heritage, perfectly fluid in at least two languages, and an expert in translating cultural traditions from distinct places in the world."
"Batalla has a glorious, supple voice, with the vocal power to sing the bluesy, Bonnie Raitt-styled "Holy Roses" and the finesse needed to bring new shadings to Leonard Cohen's "Bird on a Wire." The majority of her 45-minute set was given over to relaxed jazz, freshened by ocean breezes and Latin rhythms."
"... Batalla's music caresses ... a born storyteller with a rambunctious sense of humor..."
Los Angeles Times
"No comparison to other singers seems to work, you
just have to hear her to become a believer...Singers like
Perla Batalla come along once in a great while and the
landslide of thousands of musical acts can be overlooked.
"Seek her out and hear the voice."
