AUGUST UPDATE AND WAA SHOWCASES

Perla Batalla tours with her new Christmas CD this fall, and will be in the southwest in the spring. She will tour worldwide in 09-10 with her band and with Javier Colis.

Chicana Gypsy Project from Jerez, Spain, featuring Maria Bermudez will debut in the U.S. and tour in January 2009. Maria offers a spicy, sultry Flamenco evening, featuring American Jazz and Mexican melodies. 09-10 dates are available.

Tango First Century tours the U.S. west to east, February-June 2009. Some fill-in dates are still available.

Do Jump! has fill-in dates in the west for June, 2009. They premiere a new work this fall.

Joni Mitchell and Alberta Ballet's "Fiddle and the Drum" will debut the U.S. in February 2010, following their performances at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, BC and western Canada. FYI, the tour has an option to exhibit Joni's artwork. DVD's are available.

Next month Ballet Jazz de Montreal [bjm danse]performs at New York's Fall for Dance Festival and then at The Egg in Albany before leaving on an extended European tour. In 09-10, dates are available in October and April-May with new works by Aszure Barton and Mauro Bigonzetti.

Coleman Lemieux & Compagnie had a busy summer touring Canada and Mongolia! They premiere "Hymn to the Universe" accompanied live by the Sun Ra Arkestra, October 21st, at Toronto's legendary Palais Royale. There is funding to bring presenters in to see the the company.

Helios Dance Theater premieres new work at Cerritos Performing Arts Center in October and at the Broad Theater in Santa Monica in the Spring.

Backhaus Dance joins Helios in Cerritos, and just joined us this month!

Leine Roebana will also be joining us from The Netherlands this fall. Stay tuned for more information.

Liss Fain Dance's home season is September 11-13 at Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco. There is funding to bring presenters in to see the the company. Please inquire asap.

Louise Lecavalier is enjoying large audiences in Canada and Europe and returns to the U.S after a long absence, to Fall for Dance in NY on September 19.

WAA PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE (see below):

Calle Sur, Los Llaneros, Kate MacLeod , ON Ensemble and Rudolf Budginas will perform at WAA. El Vez will also emcee for By The Sound Concert Series at Triple Door.
