ABOUT

Chicana Gypsy Project is a passionate music and dance ensemble featuring renowned Flamenco choreographer/dancer Maria Bermudez and 5 international musicians who together, radiate Flamenco heat through American Jazz standards, Mexican Rancheras, Flamenco, and original compositions. Through Chicana Gypsy Project, Bermudez blends the two worlds in which she lives: the "City of Flamenco", Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, and her birthplace, Los Angeles, California. Supported by the power and complexity of Flamenco rhythms, Bermudez sings in English and Spanish with the sultriness of American Blues, and dances pure Gypsy Flamenco with strength, grace, and fluidity. With improvisation at the core of its musical approach, Chicana Gypsy Project surprises, enchants and appeals to audiences as diverse as the group itself.
